Have you ever wondered why Air doesn't offer servers in Italy?  IIRC, it's the regulatory environment.  They don't find it to be consistent with Air values and privacy policies.  (Anyone, please correct me if you know more of this than I of the poor memory do.)

The official stance seems to be that Italian customers aren't supposed to use the service anymore, sadly

At least this isn't as bad as if airvpn allowed Italy to do global censorship. I can see why they chose to handle it this way instead

Italy Approves Piracy Shield VPN/DNS Proposal, Risk of Prison For ISPs Intact [Updated]

Italy's Senate Budget and Finance Committees have approved amended legal proposals that require VPN and DNS services located anywhere, to block pirated content flagged by rightsholders. Other service providers, including ISPs, will face prison for failing to report "known" criminal conduct. A vote on the text is scheduled for today and the new legislation could be in place in less than a week.

That's exactly how it's all started in Russia. Welcome to the club. First politics are "just trying to do something against blah-blah-blah", then they realize that they gained extra power and start to abuse it. Currently it's impossible to count the number of sites blocked in Russia with this very same instrument.
