how to check connection status via terminal on eddie-cli?

On Ubuntu 20.04.  Was using openvpn natively and checking status via grepping 'nmcli con'.  Experimenting with eddie-ui and finally got it working.  But 'nmcli con' no longer shows anything relevant.  I expect eddie-cli must be able to do what I want, but I looked through the help and none of the options jump out at me as possibly doing what I want.

Any suggestions?

If you’re using AirVPN DNS, you can check for an active connection by trying to connect to https://check.airservers.org/api/ 
with ping, curl or even dig/host.
