Port Forwarding Test always reports "Connection timed out (110)"

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new and not too knowledgeable about port forwarding and firewall/vpn internals. I'm trying to set up port forwarding on two adjacent ports. I've found the client area and found fitting ports. I've reserved them successfully, but both the "Test Open" functionality on the website and the test from the application I'm trying to use report that the ports are closed. The "Port Open" test on the website always reports 'Connection timed out (110)'. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the VPN or with my client machine, but I'm not really sure what I could do in order to fix the problem and would appreciate help.

My understanding is that my router settings should not have any influence at all on this - as I'm running a VPN client on my computer and any traffic should be going through the VPN tunnel, thus bypassing my router. So if the issue is client side, I'd have assumed that it can only be the firewall. I have already tried setting up firewall rules that let through all incoming traffic on the two ports I reserved, but this didn't change anything about the result of the test. Buy maybe my understanding of how this all works is wrong and I should change something on my router? I'm running Windows 10 behind a fritzbox if that matters. Only using the windows firewall.

Thanks for reading and thanks for any help or suggestions :)

All the best,
Mirko

What kind of application are you trying to run?
Is it listening on the ports you forwarded?
Is it listening on the correct interface, if applicable?

You can undo everything you did on the Fritz!Box, it doesn't play any part when it comes to VPNs run on your computer.

It is soulseek. Yes, I’ve set it to listen on the ports i forwarded and yes, it is listening on the correct network interface (as far as i can tell). Either way, I’d have assumed that the test on the airvpn website should work and not run into a timeout, right? That part doesn’t have anything to do with the application.

I did not change any rules on my router, i changed the rules of my windows firewall (but to no avail). Sorry for not being clear enough on that.

Sorry to bump this but I am also running into this issue after returning to AirVPN. It's been quite a while since I've used this but I remember vaguely how to set up port forwarding. I've setup a forwarded port in the Client Area and have checked on yougetsignal but am getting a response from the site that the port is closed. On AirVPN's site in the client area using the "Test Open" button is returning " Connection timed out (110) " error.

This is on the Mirach server.

I'm also trying to change servers, typically I connect to one in Canada but it keeps routing me specifically to Mirach even when I choose my server.

Appreciate any help and sorry if this is a silly/redundant question, a search lead me to this thread.

EDIT: I've fixed the server changing error. For some reason Malwarebytes and AirVPN (Eddie) are not getting along. I've been having this issue since upgrading to Windows 10 and Malwarebytes whitelist just doesn't seem to work anymore. Didn't have this issue on Windows 7; however, I'm still having the issue with connection timed out (110) when trying to generate a port in the client area.
