How to get access to local network resources while connected to VPN?

So I'm running a Kubuntu box for torrenting, and I setup my VPN by importing my .ovpn file with the network manager, and it works great, but I can' access my local NAS. Does anyone know how to get access to local resources while connected to VPN?

You can't do this with networkmanager-openvpn, sorry. You must use vanilla OpenVPN via terminal.

Really? It used to work a long time ago. I didn't do anything different that I recall, but then I had to re-image my machine and it hasn't worked since.

networkmanager-openvpn never pushed the local route for me, something vanilla OpenVPN does. I think the one step you forgot is to enter a route for your local network manually. In the GUI it's in the IPv4/IPv6 tabs.
