Cant add eddie_maintainer key to debian without being on AirVPN already

I am playing around with bluetit and was having some issues. So I decided to test my connection with Eddie. I followed the instructions to add the repo but would get this error.
 

E: Failed to fetch http://eddie.website/repository/apt/dists/stable/InRelease  Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NOSPLIT' (does the network require authentication?)

I glossed over the "does network require authentication" part and on a whim  I restarted the bluetit service, connected to a server, and then reran apt update. To my surprise it worked to fetch from the eddie repo. It now works when updating via clearnet or vpn so I thought I would toss this out there in case anyone else has an issue.

I am using debian testing with apt-transport-tor for the regular debain updates.
