The funny part is that I can access it via my german ISP. Browsing either site does not return a block page for me. AirVPN servers appear to be soft-blocked here.

US financial institutions all block US VPN servers to some degree. Some block all access. Some block only the deposit process (via app photo, for example).  I believe this is because regulations restrict deposits from abroad, and when a client is behind a VPN, they just can't know.
