Hi all, I'm new to Linux and I'm trying to install Eddie for desktop on a machine with architecture arm64 and Armbian Linux.

So, after many troubles with the dependencies, I managed to install the Eddie experimental version 2.20.0 (providing the commands in the terminal).
I can see the Eddie icon between the installed software, but when I click on it, it does not start.
I tried to write  
eddie-ui
in the terminal, but it provides this

First, did you run Eddie as root? Doesn't look like it, and both the warning message and the $ in the prompt without at least a sudo hint at this.
Second, are you running a graphical environment? If not, eddie-ui --cli is the only option you have. Calling eddie-ui launches Eddie with GUI.

Thanks for your answer, I'm running armbian on a tv box connected to a monitor.
Moving to root and writing eddie-ui in the terminal provides a similar error

while if I type eddie-ui --cli it suggest to write eddie-ui --cli -login=mynick -password=mypassword with my credentials. I tried and, at least on the terminal, eddie manage to start.
As suggested in the terminal, I wrote N and the connection was established (tested with ipleaks.net).

However, I'd rather to run eddie with the GUI, especially for setting the preferences...is there any way to do that? As I mentioned, there is no response when I press on the icon and I have no idea of what I should do... Edited ... by umbeVPN

That doesn't really answer the question. A headless system will be able to use the monitor, too, that doesn't mean it can draw windows. Are you running a desktop environment like xfce or not? Or asked this way: When you flashed Armbian, did you choose an ISO with "desktop" in its name or one without?

I'm sorry, I still have everything to learn about Linux and I'm grateful for your help.
The iso that I used is named "Arbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0_desktop", and the command echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP returns XFCE, so I'd say that I have a graphical environment running.

Neither. Install the complete Mono framework to be sure it's not a matter of missing libraries:

# apt-get install mono-complete

Ok, I installed the complete framework but mono-test-install returns the same answer.
Anyway, I red the eddie-cli manual and I managed to provide on the terminal the settings that I intended to set through the GUI, therefore the situation right now is not so bad for my needs.
If you have other suggestions I'll be happy to give them a try, otherwise I thank you very much for your help, I discovered another way to get the VPN working thanks to you!

Interestingly, I get a similar error when I run the test tool… might be a bug with it.

Does eddie-ui work now after installation of the complete framework?

I got great news!
At the beginning eddie-ui did not work even after the installation of the complete framework.
For other reasons, I executed 

sudo apt --fix-broken install
and installed xrdp (I was looking for remore control) following these instructions.
Now, I don't know which is the reason between these two, but now eddie-ui starts simply by clicking on the icon!
I managed to login, insert my settings and everything else through the GUI. Finally the problem is solved.
Again, thank you very much for your help @OpenSourcerer, I'm very grateful for the support provided.

Oh. This comes closest to what it might have been:

  • install xserver-xorg-core package
  • Install xsrever-xorg-input-all package
  • install xorgxrdp package 
The core package missing is the most probable cause – and also the most improbable, because how can xfce start without Xorg core files? Input files missing doesn't make sense, the stack trace above points at a problem drawing the window, not accepting input. xorgxrdp is only for xrdp support, and why should Eddie use that. Riddles in the dark…
