Incorrect display of Eddie UI under Kubuntu 20.04

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have installed a Kubuntu 20.04 here. Now I have included the sources for Eddie as usual and installed Eddie. If I start Eddie now it is no longer usable from the display.

How do I get the whole thing under control?

Thanks for your help in advance. :-)

This looks like something we've seen in the past. Something along the lines of "update KDE" or "update Mono" was the solution. I think it was the latter. Can't find the two threads anymore, though.
Can you post the output of this?

$ mono --version

OK the Packages mono-devel and mono-complete was no solution. Also after reinstalling Eddie.

I've have the folowing mono version:

blackbox@workstation-blackbox:~$ mono --version
Mono JIT compiler version 6.8.0.105 (Debian 6.8.0.105+dfsg-2 Wed Feb 26 23:23:50 UTC 2020)
Copyright (C) 2002-2014 Novell, Inc, Xamarin Inc and Contributors. www.mono-project.com
        TLS: __thread
        SIGSEGV: altstack
        Notifications: epoll
        Architecture: amd64
        Disabled: none
        Misc: softdebug
        Interpreter: yes
        LLVM: supported, not enabled.
        Suspend: hybrid
        GC: sgen (concurrent by default)
blackbox@workstation-blackbox:~$

Coud it be the Bindings from Mono to GTK or QT?

Possibly it is because of the package libnunit2.4-cil, that there was earlier but in the meantime it seems to have been merged into mono-devel.

I'd say it's a GTK or QT compatibility issue.  I switched to Hummingbird full time recently, because of Eddie issues.  It's nice having the GUI of Eddie (if it works properly), but Hummingbird is faster while consuming far fewer resources. There's a wrapper script for Hummingbird if you need a GUI to connect when you log in to your session.  No Mono required either.

I run Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon.  Eddie started freezing and sometimes crashing - never the blank ui like you posted though.  I updated mono-devel and even tried mono-complete.  Did the whole Eddie uninstall / reinstall routine.  Anyway, if you want to try Hummingbird

Hummingbird with wrapper
