alphastep 0 Posted ... I have noticed in the past few months that I am unable to access this domain when I use Airvpn (any of its servers):https://www.klaus-schulze.com I can't access it even when I use the Tor browser (with airvpn client working at the same time), which is odd. When I try to access it with Opera browser, this is the error page I get (after several minutes of trying to access it unsuccessfully): This site can’t be reached klaus-schulze.com took too long to respond. Surprisingly enough, it can be pinged and traceroute also seems to work: ------------- ~$ traceroute klaus-schulze.com traceroute to klaus-schulze.com (85.13.136.162), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets 1 10.6.254.1 (10.6.254.1) 141.883 ms 146.863 ms 146.857 ms 2 199.19.94.1 (199.19.94.1) 146.809 ms * * 3 166.48.160.7 (166.48.160.7) 146.976 ms 146.977 ms 146.964 ms 4 66.199.142.1 (66.199.142.1) 146.948 ms 151.674 ms 151.680 ms 5 10ge.xe-11-3-0.tor-fr709-cor-1.peer1.net (216.187.113.77) 151.721 ms 10ge.xe-1-1-2.tor-fr709-cor-1.peer1.net (216.187.120.132) 151.589 ms 10ge.xe-11-3-0.tor-fr709-cor-1.peer1.net (216.187.113.77) 154.256 ms 6 ae51.bar2.Toronto1.Level3.net (4.28.138.81) 154.257 ms 204.355 ms 144.098 ms 7 ae-2-52.edge4.Berlin1.Level3.net (4.69.146.133) 266.070 ms 265.974 ms 265.758 ms 8 ae-2-52.edge4.Berlin1.Level3.net (4.69.146.133) 266.913 ms 266.702 ms 272.863 ms 9 NEUE-MEDIEN.edge4.Berlin1.Level3.net (212.162.11.134) 272.750 ms 272.147 ms 275.904 ms 10 dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162) 275.787 ms 275.679 ms 274.540 ms --------------------- PING klaus-schulze.com (85.13.136.162) 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162): icmp_seq=1 ttl=53 time=309 ms 64 bytes from dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162): icmp_seq=2 ttl=53 time=261 ms 64 bytes from dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162): icmp_seq=3 ttl=53 time=282 ms 64 bytes from dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162): icmp_seq=4 ttl=53 time=246 ms 64 bytes from dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162): icmp_seq=5 ttl=53 time=295 ms 64 bytes from dd15336.kasserver.com (85.13.136.162): icmp_seq=6 ttl=53 time=321 ms ----------------------------------------------- However, none of the browsers is able to access it. But most of the other airvpn servers seem to block it. Try for instance with Veritate (DE) or Camelopardalis (NO). Quote Share this post Link to post

Nope, it's still unreachable through Camelopardalis, Veritate, Caleano (NL), Rukbat (NL) and many others. Please note that when I say unreachable, I mean unreachable through a browser. I am now connected to Rukbat and can't reach that site through any browser, but I am able to ping and traceroute it. It looks like there is some kind of block for that site on the browser level for some airvpn servers, but not for the others. Strange. Quote Share this post Link to post
OpenSourcerer 1435 Posted ... There is no browser level. The route checker does a normal HTTP query like a browser would do and all servers get a 200 back. Can you try with another machine? Can you try with another machine? I just tried with my Android phone using the official Eddie app from the Google store. Unfortunately, it's the same story. It doesn't want to open that site in Firefox browser (Firefox for Android) - just shows like it's trying to connect to the site, and hangs in that state for about 2 minutes, then displays the message "The connection has timed out". The same thing happens if I use OpenVPN for Android app instead of Eddie and configure it by giving it airvpn config file for some servers. Again, just like on my main laptop Linux Mint computer, when I connect to Mirfak on Android, klaus-schulze.com does work without any problems. When I connect through Camelopardalis, Veritate and pretty much any other airvpn server, it won't display in Firefox on Android and eventually times out. I don't know how to perform a traceroute on Android, but when I do it on my Linux Mint laptop it will always work, even for servers which seem to block that site in the browser. Could this be, then, due to my ISP? Quote Share this post Link to post
zhang888 1066 Posted ... The site is probably blocking some IPs and subnets specifically, doesn't work on 2/3 Tor nodes I tried as well. Use this mirror:http://web.archive.org/web/20190428094628/https://www.klaus-schulze.com/ Doesn't look like the site has any dynamic or updating content, some pre-2000 layout and no user interaction. I know about the possibility to use web archive, but that's not really a mirror strictly speaking. I check out that site from time to time because they do post updates. It's not a site that never changes. I also think that that site must have some kind of block for VPN and Tor IPs... that's the only explanation. Quote Share this post Link to post
zhang888 1066 Posted ... If you like that site, maybe tell them there is a very new thing now, called javascript, and HTML5 :) And there are things like Wordpress that can make it really good indexable site that is possible to read and search. Maybe also that blocking IPs is from 90s, just how the website looks. At least they are consistent with this part.
