Can Eddie on Android be configured to bypass VPN block in shops and supermarkets (UK)?

I have been using AirVPN for 1-2yrs now and think it works great.

I have noticed quite a few high street shops and supermarkets in the UK providing free wifi, but then block the use of a VPN.

I get around this using Stunnel and OpenVPN, with a named server on protocol SSL port 443, but am wondering if Eddie on Android can be configured to work in this environment? I note the excellent "Guide to getting started" suggesting changing the preferences on Eddie, but that option isn't obviously available on Eddie for Android.

I am using Eddie version 2.1 RC 1 and have tried tweaking settings such as changing default protocol to TCP, but although Eddie indicates that an internet connection has been made (even without the tweaks), the web browsers on the mobile phone don't load web pages.

Can I use Eddie or is it recommended just to continue with OpenVPN using stunnel?
