Some websites not reachable via certain (DE) AirVPN servers

Hi,

 

I have recently noticed that some websites are not reachable when connected to some of the German AirVPN servers. Unfortunately, I did not write down all concerned URLs and can only remember one.

 

Example URL: www.aktionspreis.de

 

My setup:

• DD-WRT router is connecting to de.vpn.airdns.org
• Local DNS server: Raspberry Pi running Pi-Hole. Upstream DNS servers: (1) 10.4.0.1#53 and (2) 84.200.69.80#53 (for looking up de.vpn.airdns.org when not connected to AirVPN).
• Note: Pi-Hole was disabled during tests

 

AirVPN Route Checking tool does not report any problems for aktionspreis.de.

Also, pinging aktionspreis.de is always possible, regardsless of what server I am connected to.

 

Pinging aktionspreis.de [85.13.161.181] with 32 bytes of data:

Nonetheless, aktionspreis.de is not reachable via any browser or computer. Edge reports Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND

 

I have tested all known German AirVPN servers with the following results:

 

Working:

• Adhara
• Serpens
• Veritate

 

Failing:

• Cervants
• Errai
• Intercrus
• Ogma
• Tucana
• Mesarthim

 

 

Does anyone have an idea what is causing the issue? I have checked my setup but since the issue only occurs when connected to some AirVPN servers, I thought that this is due to something outside of my local setup.

I'm sure all these sites are hosted at https://all-inkl.com/ as I found the same issues with some of their sites.

 

I would love to get this fixed, but I guess there is nothing we can do about apart from AirVPN is getting us new fresh external IPs.

Then it is at least (likely) not a misonconfiguration from my side. But all-inkl.com is a rather large webhosting reseller, isn't?

 

Well, for now I try to stick with the DE servers

• Adhara
• Serpens
• Veritate

as they are not blocked.

Serpens and Adhara are no longer working. However, Mesarthim and Errai are now working again.

 

DE AirVPN servers currently working with websites hosted on all-inkl.com:

• Errai
• Mesarthim
• Veritate

 

This is strange, isn't it? Why are previously blogged servers now working? Any ideas?

I am connected to US servers and live in the US, but add verizonwireless.com to the list of sites that block the VPN out right as in you can't connect. Going around the VPN the site loads just fine. Now that I actually use Verizon Wireless, I have to circumvent the VPN to look at my bill or anything else.

An email exchange with all-inkl.com (aka Neue Medien Münnich) was forwarded to me. In there, there were the following two statements:

Die IP ist nicht gesperrt. Der Zugang zu den Webseiten sollte also möglich sein.

and later:

Ihre IP-Adresse ist bereits mehrfach negativ in unserem Sicherheitssystem aufgefallen. Das ist leider einer der Nachteile eines öffentlichen Netzwerkes. Verhindern können wir diese nicht.

 

So it seems that someone was doing malicious things from, in this case, Mesarthim.

Since not everybody understands German, I try to translate the statements of all-inkl.com provided by Wogeno as good as I can: 

 

 

 The first one goes like this:

 

"The IP is not blocked. Therefore, access to the websites should be possible."

 

The second one:

 

"Your IP address has already attracted some negative attention from our security systems several times. Regrettably, that's one of the disadvantages of a public network. We are not able to prevent this."
