SOCKS proxy question and availability

Recommended Posts

Hello people,

Question for you - In my reading I believe I have found that using a SOCKS v5 proxy encrypts TCP/UDP traffic to the proxy server. So that would mean that everything from the browser to the server, is encrypted and not able to be viewed. Now, this is clearly not as good as a VPN as the entire computer is not protected, but for browsing the Internet privately, this seems like an effective tool.

My use case:

I am using a work computer that I cannot connect to a VPN. I have multiple browsers on the computer however. I would love to be able to set one of them up to use the proxy, while having the other one for work. I have read on the forums that someone was recommending Tor for this purpose. However, I am unable to install that on my computer. Is this something that AirVPN can help me accomplish. If not, is there some other way?
