Thoughts on Unifi UAP-PRO

Recommended Posts

I bought two used units to replace my aging amped wireless router/combo that I used as an AP.

They seemed like ok hardware aside from the software that need to be installed to set it up.

But i thought if anyone used these or similar would they make the same choice or not?

I got 2 of these in my house and thinking to get 1 for the garden outside also,

but need to do some more tests first if it's really needed.

The idea behind the unify device isn't to broadcast at full power (it's useless anyway because most used devices aren't able to send back that strong anyway)

I got 1 of the AC points on the ceiling of my attic put it on low power,

so it switch seamless from 1 AP (Attic) to the other (Living).

I currently use three SHD's but have had most of the range at one time or another and would definitely buy them again. I've been using Ubiquiti hardware for a few years and although it started a bit rough, its maturing nicely. Ruckus wifi gear probably edges Ubiquiti out but its a chunk more expensive and theres a lot less patient users around to provide support if you run into any complications.

Those are good if you flash OpenWRT on them.

Really solid and the OpenWRT on them is stable.

We run ~50+ of them without issues for 3 years, in a 3000sqm facility - size of football  stadium + exits,  in China.

But I am talking about these:

The regular unit can cover at least 100sqm, with 2.4 and 5 bands:

Cheap and good choice.

Mesh them with 802.11s and you can host the next world cup.
