vpn running on computer, but can't access transmission server (On Nas) when its running (qnap - transmission)

Recommended Posts

it used to work fine

so i have a vpn running on my qnap nas which has transmission app installed on port 49091

if my nas ip is  192.168.0.5:49091 (if vpn is turned off on my computer, it works, but when i switched on) it says 'connection time out)

i need the vpn running on my computer to add torrents to the transmission server via magnet/torrent download

kyrussssswwxxxxxx.myqnapcloud.com

is there a way around this? is there something in the settings i can add, so transmission can connect via localhost / ip etc

thank you

If you are using VPN on QNAP (for Transmission UCP/TCP port for torrent upload/download) AND VPN on your computer to access the Transmission GUI, remember that your exit IP is effectively from the Internet so you won't see your QNAP via local IPs (which is correct as the VPN on your computer is working).

So they way to do this is create a Port Forward for the GUI port (I think Transmissions default GUI port is 9091). Then you will need to use the exit IP (or "Mapped to public IP") and the port AirVPN creates to forward the traffic (You can't use the AirVPN DDNS as you will have two active VPN services running; your QNAP and your computer).

That will allow you to have AirVPN running on both QNAP and Computer AND allow you to access the GUI for Transmission via your computer.
