Mick Vick 0 Posted ... My torrent speeds are much slower when connected to AirVPN. I'm just getting frustrated now because I usually look around forums for solutions, but I've tried about everything and its no use x - port forwarding x - protocols x - utorrent preferences x - different torrent programs x - different servers And I know its not a torrent problem because when I use my connection without vpn I get 7-12 mbps but with I get 300 - 600 kbps. I'm out of ideas and was hoping someone could help me. Quote Share this post Link to post
Mad_Max 15 Posted ... Have you tried qBitTorrent? if you haven't, you should. Quote Share this post Link to post
monstrocity 31 Posted ... I also used utorrent (2.2.1) for 5-6 years until I started using airvpn. Once I got the hang of eddie, I switched to qbittorrent; there's a guide (or link to one) floating around on the forum. A search should point you to it. Once you get eddie and qbittorrent set up correctly, I think you'll be satisfied with the results. There are a plethora of factors that affect p2p speeds while using a vpn, and I've yet to experience a service that gave me the same speeds as an open, unprotected connection. In other words, expect a hit on your speeds behind a vpn. Quote Share this post Link to post
Mad_Max 15 Posted ... A very small hit you mean... My torrent speed without the vpn is 6.1MB/s Download, With AirVPN and qBitTorrent i get between 5.6--5.9MB/s Quote Share this post Link to post
Mick Vick 0 Posted ... So I tried qBittorrent and its pretty much the same...I've tried these settings - https://airvpn.org/topic/14454-airvpn-and-torrenting-privacy-help-needed/?p=28664and these - https://airvpn.org/topic/20518-speeds-peaking-and-plummeting-while-torrenting/?p=52446 But can't keep even a consistent 800 kbps. It seems like only torrent speeds are slow because when I speed test I get over 80mbps for download Any ideas? Quote Share this post Link to post

It seems like only torrent speeds are slow because when I speed test I get over 80mbps for download Any ideas? Try speedtest on http://beta.speedtest.netLet it search the nearest server automatically. If you don't get more than 10mbps for download, torrent is not the problem. In this case, you want to go around different servers until you find the right one (highest speed). Just because all the servers you connect to are in the same area or nearest to you, speed will not be the same. Speed also varies by ISP circumstances, so it's assuring to do a quick speed check when you connect every time. I personally get the same speed from speedtest on popular torrent. If speedtest gives you adequate results and somehow you are not getting enough speed on torrent, there may be numerous reasons, but probably you haven't set up the software correctly or you may have port forwarding problem. Use qbittorrent and make sure you bind the correct network interface and optional address to bind to in advanced setting. You can find out what the network interface is by going to control panel>network and internet>change adapter settings. VPN network will be something along TAP-windows adapter etc. Mine is Ethernet 2, so I choose Ethernet 2 on qbittorrent. You can find out the address to optionally bind to on Eddie if you go to stats and look for "VPN IP". Choose that one on qbittorrent below the network bind. Also, make sure you have correctly forwarded a port on AirVPN website and typed it in qbittorrent and disabled upnp/nat. Restart your qbittorrent and you should see number of nodes go up at the bottom. You can also check via execution log, which must be enabled via view>log>show, if the ip of vpn server you are connected shows up. That means it is correctly configured. Make sure there isn't any conflict with your own IP. This happens when you don't bind network interface and ip correctly. If you're still having speed problem after this, it's either your disk limitation or what you're trying to download isn't well seeded. If all else fails, try reinstalling Windows.
