Trouble with Airvpn and my Netgear router

I've recently installed a new Netgear d7000 router, and am having trouble connecting to websites while using it with Airvpn. I think it is a problem with Airvpn working with the router and it happened at the same time, but I don't know/

 

When I turn off airvpn, it works no problem, my handheld devices which don't have airvpn also work fine.

 

What happens when I connect to the internet with the VPN is that it takes a long time, maybe a minute, to actually connect to the website. In the bottom left corner of Firefox it will say thinks like 'waiting for google' or 'waiting to perform TLS handshake'.

 

It is the same on other browsers.

 

Sometimes the connection will be fine, and sometimes just changing the server will seem to sort the problem out. Also if I remain connected to the VPN for an hour, then usually there are few issues.

 

Any thoughts and suggestions appreciated
