Where is the measurment for the ping time taken from when beta.speedtest.net.  Is it the ping from the air server that Im using to the test data centre or is it the ping from my machine to the data centre?

Second statement is right.

Air server has no way to ping test data center, because testing web application runs on your computer (web browser).

Thanks.  Thats what I suspected.  Speedtest sees air as my isp as that is the public facing ip I have been assigned.

You-->ISP-->Air server-->server for testing ping and vice versa
