Outgoing mail blocked on my iPhone

When using vpn on my iPhone with OpenVPN I can receive mail but sending is blocked.

I’m running my own mail server with macOS server 5.4 connected with a macOS server account.

It seems port 25 is used for this connection, is there a way to make this work without turning the software off?
