Problems with Eddie "checking route"

Recommended Posts

I had issues this morning using Sierra, so just updated to High Sierra. Rebooted twice. Rebooted my router and modem. Problem persists. I'm using Eddie 2.13.6. I feel every week or two weeks I run into this issue for a while, then usually rebooting my computer works to fix the issue. But not always.

Anyhow, I've seen this issue pop up a lot on the forums, but never have I seen a workable solution. Thoughts? Thanks.

Here are my logs:

A solution that has worked for me is disabling network lock.

Disabling network lock seems to work when I tried it, but this makes me wonder why network lock would be blocking the VPN from working as expected. It'd be nice to keep the network lock on so you have complete protection even while it's switching servers, which it does periodically.

Having loads of trouble with AirVPN over the past year.

Try this. Under "Network Lock" uncheck "allow lan/private" and "allow ping". Or check them if they are not checked. Save settings. Shut down and restart Eddie and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for the advice, however it didn't work. It got stuck on "Checking DNS." I do appreciate the help, though.

Are you running Little Snitch? If so, make sure mDNSResponder is allowing outgoing connections.

I am running Little Snitch. I checked, and mDNSResponder's rule is already set to allow any outgoing connections.

Hmm. Perhaps if you have not done so yet, submit a ticket to Staff explaining the problem and include both regular log and log system information. I was having the same problem on my Macbook Pro running Sierra, but it seems to be fine now. All I remember doing is shutting down both the Pro and my router and rebooting both. On my iMac running El Capitan, however, I am having a few problems that may or may not be related. Submit a ticket. It won't hurt to see what they say.

was there a response to your ticket?  I have the same problem -- with network lock, can't connect.

Have you tried unchecking the "Check AirVPN DNS:" option in the DNS section of the Preferences menu? That cured the failure to connect issues for me,

Same here, been having this problem with Air VPN client eddie 2.11.15.

None of the above suggestions work for me. Any other suggestions?

SAME.

Same here.

MacOS 10.12.6 (Sierra)

Same Checking Route - Checking DNS - Restarting Loop.

Turning OFF the Network lock, I get instant connection immediately.

However I wont use it in that way.

In the end I just went with another company and when I realised that it worked with them - now want to sort this out here.

Have tried unchecking the "Check Dns" and it DOES seem to work so far (1 try) - but does that make it insecure?

Thank you

T.

Disabling the "Check DNS" option usually just means that your system will not be forced to use the DNS server of the VPN. This can be a good thing if you are willing to take an extra step after connecting to the VPN to start DNSCrypt with one of the many free servers they have. But it is annoying to have to do this. However, some ISPs force you to install what they claim is required software to use the Internet service they sell to you. In every case I have seen, the only thing this junk software does is force you to use their DNS server so they can spy on you.

Here is a link to DNSCrypt. I do not have a Mac, so I cannot really advise you about it. But I suspect it will work just fine even if you have that junk software from your ISP messing things up. And if not, you can easily remove it.

Good luck.

Debugging is at least twice as hard as writing the program in the first place.

So if you write your code as clever as you can possibly make it, then by definition you are not smart enough to debug it.

Thank you very much for your answer. I understand some of it - but I certainly understand your warning! I will install it.

As I understand, I just need to run it - which I now am when AirVPN/Eddie is running? What is the recommended DNS (resolver)  to connect to in this case?

I like okTurtles. They may not have all the features of some of the other DNS options, but they are very fast for me here in the USA. Usually, any server near to you will work well. And if it does not, you can switch them out very quickly with no problems.
