25mb normal downloads

Recently decided to get a VPN and decided to go with AirVPN! I love how it is very easy to setup and the network lock button makes it easy to know that you are secure whilst online. I am however a bit disapointed about the download speeds. Normally without the use of a VPN I get around 25mb/s download speed, but now with AirVPN I seem to be maxed out at 1mb/s. Obviously being 25 times slower is not ideal and have heard that others are getting almost as good as normal speeds so I am wondering if someone can help me figure out what I am doing wrong?
