AirVPN doesn't open in Kubuntu 15.04

Recommended Posts

I've been using Kubuntu for quite a while, it's a nice graphical interface that doesn't require a lot of knowledge for normal use.    When necessary I can use a terminal window.

I downloaded and installed eddie-ui_2.12.4_linux_x64_debian.deb.   The install went fine and AirVPN is in my application launcher.   When I click on it to start the program the icon bounces above the cursor as usual and the AirVPN program appears for several seconds on the task manager bar and vanishes.  I'm dead in the water until I can get it to load, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried not to make myself look more knowledgeable than I am but I may have failed.  I'm fairly good with the GUI and I can use the terminal, but I'm afraid that I really don't use it much.   I'm a whiz with DOS but not so much with the linux terminal.  What I'm trying to say is perhaps you could be a bit more specific about what I'm to run, where it is, some help with the command structure, etc.

Sure, open a terminal, it should be in the KDE menu some where, I'm not familiar with KDE so can't say for sure, or try right clicking on the desktop and open the terminal from there.  Then type "airvpn" (without quotes) and enter, add your password when asked .    Make sure to leave the terminal open after starting airvpn,  it should spit out any problems that are encountered. Copy and past the output here so we can take a look.

I looked at what else was installed and found a program I didn't recognize and don't remember installing, perhaps it came with the initial Kubuntu install.   It was Shrew Soft VPN Client.  I uninstalled it, which also uninstalled AirVPN.  When I reinstalled AirVPN it opened as it should.

Thanks for the help, trying to do that pointed me to looking up other things and stumbling into the answer.

Glad you got it sorted, I see shrew is listed as ike in the repos, maybe its a KDE default, I don't know.

Cheers!
