I hope this is the right place for this, but I have a question that may or may not be stupid.

I have an android phone with open vpn installed.  AirVPN works fine with mobile data or when using a normal wifi connection.

BUT:  I live a good distance from the router and have virtually no access to it. (No, I'm not hacking it).  I have to use a long distance antenna and adapter for my laptop when I'm home and my phone shares the connection with my computer.

Is it possible to set things up in Win7 so that AirVpn works with this shared wifi connection?  If I try to use said shared connection with the VPN active, I can't get a connection at all, let alone one through the vpn.  As a wild guess, would it have to do with setting a proxy in my phone's wifi manager perhaps?  Like I said, doing this at all might be such a self-evident impossibility that it's dumb to even ask, but I'm not a network guy. I barely know what a proxy is but I'd like to save my limited allotment of mobile data for when It's necessary.

TIA for any hints or advice on this.

EDIT:   Nevermind.  Nothing to do w/proxies.  I be so dumb sometimes. But I finally figured it out.  Better than that, I found a tiny little free program  for Windows 7 and 8 called VirtualRouter on Codeplex that automated the whole shebang, and got around another sticking point I had where I couldn't assign the correct adapter to my shared TAP connection.  I see that codeplex is shutting down soon, so if anyone thinks that might come in handy, get it now.

Re-Edit.  Ok, forget VirtualRouter.  There's a glitch in Android that makes it perpetually seek an address unless you change the properties in the connection to a static address assignment.  Even then, it may or may not work depending on the moon phase or something.  So, after 20 some more hours of torment, I was referred by a year old post to a program called OSToto Hotspot.  It worked instantly, perfectly and every time, unlike the intermittent performance of VirtualRouter and the non-performance/disastrous performance of the 5 other programs I tried.  And it's not old abandonedware. You can run it without shutting down Air first and seamlessly enable and disable the hotspot without interfering with Eddie.  Can't recommend it enough if you're having problems with a Win7/Android combo like I was.  It's free and no pop-ups, nags or ads like other solutions (lookin' at you, Connectify-me.).  Whew!! Now I can finally try to unburn those netsh commands from my brain.

I used a self-written Batch script. It's more transparent than any software
