General Disconnects and lack of a connection.

Recommended Posts

I am sorry I don't have more details, but perhaps the devs can tell me what to post to resolve the problem.  For the past day or so, I am getting reconnects and disconnects, and ping times are way up.  Also, AirVPN will list that the client is connected, but I have been getting no connection (e.g., can't view web pages).  This is an intermittent problem, and switching servers fixes the problem, but then a few minutes later, the problem starts again.

I am also getting Capatcha screens with many websites I visit (see attached image).

I have been using AirVPN for many years now and I haven't changed any configuration settings since it worked last.

I have attached my logs -- perhaps by looking at this you can help me figure out if the problem is AirVPN or my ISP?

TCP would work around this. Make sure there is nothing on your system or network interfering with UDP traffic, such as internet security suites with firewalls, QoS settings on the router, etc. Seems like you did change something, did an update somewhere or I don't know. Just don't say something like "I can't figure it out on my system, must be AirVPN or ISP..." hint: it's rarely the case.

Software is all the same, although I did replace the router with a new one.  How would that change anything?  It's a fast Netgear Nighthawk Model# R6700 v2. How would a router affect AirVPN on a laptop?

Now look at that, you DID change something

All your traffic goes through the router, and the router could attempt to "optimize" certain kinds of traffic. It's more common with newer routers, so you should look through your router's settings and ask here or someone in private to help you identify possible VPN-breaking settings.

I want to follow-up on this thread -- it is a month later and I just plugged this bad boy back in, but I'm still getting disconnects and difficulties loading websites after a few minutes after a successful handshake.

So, let's focus on the NETGEAR GENIE settings for the Netgear Nighthawk Model# R6700v2.

Are there any Netgear Genie setting that I should be aware of that affect or break the AirVPN client connection?

Thanks!

Any chance someone can comment on this?  The Netgear Nighthawk Model# R6700 v2 router uses Netgear Genie.

I want to know whether there are any settings on here that I should configure to make the router more "friendly" to AirVPN.

I still find that the connection goes dead and that I need to disconnect and reconnect (or switch AirVPN servers), and I know the problem is coming from the Netgear router.

Please help... anyone?

You`re not alone. I`m also using AirVPN for several years now, and I have the same problem with permanent disconnection for serveral month now, using a different router. This is really terrible, but obviously there is no solution available.

I tried other VPN-provider, no problem at all. So what to do? I would rather like to stay with AIRVPN, so I`m still hoping to get rid of these annoying disconnection:

Try the following:

Check the router ping settings. I'm not familiar with netgear software or any other software. But found this on the net: http://documentation.netgear.com/wgt624v3/enu/202-10090-02/WGT624v3-07-09.html

"Respond to ping on internet port" option

On certain routers there might be two options: The first can be "ignore ping packet from internet WAN port," and the second can be "Forbid ping from internet WAN port," to router.

Switch on the respond to ping option. In other cases, uncheck the "forbid" option and try the Eddie client.

The router would return pings from the net. For a normal mortal, it would be of no concern, but depends on how much of security is desired by the user.

If the above does not work, download the latest openvpn client. The latest release has updated security. Login here and create config files for the usual servers and save them in  the desired place on the computer. Open the Openvpn client and left click on the tray icon and "import files." Openvpn client has to be connected manually to the desired airvpn server.

Hope this helps.
