Android box 4.2.2

So I have an old android box with kodi 16.1 on it. Installed open VPN for android and got the config file. However it fails to load saying tun.ko may not be installed. Found that in play store but that fails to install. According to root checker my device is rooted.

So I tried within kodi using VPN manager for openelec but that says device not supported. So seeing as air VPN haven't been interested in releasing a nice easy .apk, can some one please tell me how I get it working? Preferably at android level not within kodi.

Thanks

No-one knows the answer?  I assumed I was missing something very easy although I did find a very complicated workaround...

Kodi?

What do you mean by "Android box"?
