Android - "Network may be monitored"

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Everytime i restart my android phone, i get a notification that says that the network may be monitored by an unknown third party.

Upon opening the notification, i see there is a certificate called "Fort-Funston" in the USER column.

Should i ignore this message or something is wrong with my phone?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

This notification is normal when there's an active VPN connection. Not sure what you mean by the certificate, though. Can you append a screenshot, please?

I've found this organisation in some example configs of easy-rsa on the internet.

What happens if you disable or even delete it? I mean, OpenVPN would work without it.

I've just deleted it and OpenVPN works, so I guess i don't need it. Thanks a lot.

Do other VPN providers use this kind of certificates? I'm asking because a couple months ago before subscribing to Air i used to use another provider.

All serious VPN providers offering OpenVPN are using certificates for authentication, they're written into the generated ovpn file.

I get that notification too, but it doesn't do anything when I tap on it.  Just sits there. But I'm using an older version of Android, Kitkat, so that may be the difference.  If you can dismiss it, consider yourself lucky. I'm stuck with it clogging up my notification area.
