Avast DNS 77.234.43.210

Hello,

 

just recently I noticed if I use IPleak.net inside the VPN I get the address 77.234.43.210 returned as a DNS server as well as the DNS for whatever Air server I am connected to.

 

A quick whois gives the info that this is an Avast DNS address.

 

I do not use Avast so I was a bit surprised to see this and I was wondering if any other users have seen this DNS address from inside their  VPN's or could otherwise shed any light on why I should see this and how I can stop it?

You may use it unintentionally. Windows, especially Win10 "Creator", is known for some disadvantageous OS networking design.

Check you router, too.

 

Since you did not provide much information, I'm going to assume you do not use Eddie, ergo, no DNS switch and no Network Lock. You could set the DNS for your primary NIC to 10.4.0.1, although this hardly will matter on Win10.

This is on a Windows 7 machine using eddie with network lock on.

 

DNS on the router is set to OpenNIC.

The antivirus on the machine updated and started a secure DNS option.

 

Turned that off and the address is gone from the results.

So you were using Avast!, after all..

 

Maybe a processes list could bring more light into setups in the future, though not sure how to do this right. We get much info from OpenVPN logs only and people generally post which router they use. But sometimes it's some form of Antivirus or another app that's running on the computer giving headaches.

The machine has AVG antivirus installed,not Avast.

 

The IP address returned for Romania so I guess those 2 Co's share severs there.

I spend some time on Linux systems now so I forgot about antivirus.

I think Avast! bought AVG a while back.. i'm pretty sure, maybe they have the same servers?
