Upnp ... port forwarding from router / qbitorrent / airvpn

I use qbittorrent and read it is safer to untick the "upnp... port forwarding from router" box in qbittorrent options.  I know people do this for safety reasons but exactly how does it enhance security?

I usually have this unticke.  However, I just recently reinstalled windows, etc. and ran qbitorrent for a night with the option accidentally left ticked. What kind of exposure am I potentially looking at here?

 

Was I still protected? 

 

(note:  I use btguard proxy in addition to airvpn and have the proxy set up inside the qbitorrent options )

Hi,

 

The problem is that UPnP can bypass the VPN/proxy so it's safer to untick it.

During that time, your IP address may have leaked unless you used the network lock or any firewall rules restricting traffic to/from the VPN.
