ToastyTheEel 1 Posted ... Before the question, I'd like to give AirVPN a rave review. After a 3-day trial and some great input from folks here on the forum, I subscribed for a year a few weeks ago. AirVPN has worked flawlessly, easily, and quickly.. it's easy, effective, and a real pleasure to use. I use it alternately on my Asus router (via config file), a Win7 laptop (via Eddie), and an Android tablet (via app and config files), and it's been glitch-free on all of them. THANK YOU! Ok, now the question.. I'm considering buying a smallish tablet, 7" or 8", for travel and for use as a phone. The options that accept sim cards are either very expensive or of questionable quality (anyone know the Npole devices?). I use Freetone for texting (I don't have a data plan or smart phone) and it works great. Without the vpn activated, it makes and receives voice calls very well too. However, it won't work for voice calls behind AirVPN. I did some research and found sites that recommend various other VPNs (ExpressVPN, among others) that are said to support VoIP, and also found a few posts here on the forums that explain why VoIP doesn't work on AirVPN. I confess I didn't understand them. IS there a way to use AirVPN so that, say, I could get and receive voice calls securely via public wifi when traveling on a small tablet? If so, I could overlook the need for a sim card slot when looking for a tablet. Thanks in advance... Quote Share this post Link to post
zhang888 1066 Posted ... Most VOIP services should work behind NAT these days.If you have a specific service you are not sure about, link it here and we can check it. For example, you can try all Betamax brands, they work fine:http://backsla.sh/betamax Quote Hide zhang888's signature Hide all signatures Occasional moderator, sometimes BOFH. ToastyTheEel 1 Posted ... Thanks for the quick response. I hope I haven't used the wrong term. After receiving your reply, I tried Skype on my win7 laptop and it works find behind AirVPN. The issue is with an app called "Freetone" on an Android tablet. I tried a few other things after reading your reply, and I'm more confused than ever.. 1. I can make and receive calls to cell phones and landlines successfully without a VPN from the tablet.2. I can make and receive calls to cell phones and landlines from the tablet when running AirVPN on my router (Switzerland server, UDP)3. I can NOT make and receive calls when running AirVPN on the tablet itself (and no VPN on the router), tested with basically the same config (Switzerland, UDP). Just verified that again.. disconnected from AirVPN and the calls went right through. Running it on the tablet, obviously, would be necessary when traveling. Any ideas? Android 6.0, Asus Zenpad S.. let me know if you need any other information. Thanks again! Quote Share this post Link to post
Khariz 109 Posted ... It could be as simple as the app developer disallowing it to work while VPN service in running on the device. The fact that it works when you VPN from the router level tells me that it's not location mismatch or anything like that. Quote Share this post Link to post

How do you know that it worked well with skype, since Microsoft bought skype it has become more police state and less easy to use.I have read that skype will connect directly without connecting to the vpn Quote Share this post Link to post
