VPN Accelerator Cards on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

I have found a Soekris VPN1401 PCI Hardware accelerator card on Ebay that is physically compatible with my server/router. I have found references that suggest it can be used under Linux (mainly in 2.2.x and 2.4.x kernels, but nothing specific to Ubuntu 16.04.

 

Does anyone have this card playing nicely with Ubuntu? Are there any other commercially available cards that are known to work with Ubuntu?

Thats a 10 year old card so I wouldn't put too much hope in it.

Unfortunately the board has only a PCI or a mini PCIe port free and my choice of OS limits my opportunities further stil.
