Can't connect to any servers at university

Hi, I got a problem with connecting to any server, i can't connect to any server at all, It just says connecting and then after a while it restarts the vpn and tries to connect to a different server but no luck at all. I am living on the campus so there is a lot of stuff blocked by the IT departament, i can only access this website/forum through a different vpn to write this post to you. the vpn i am using now is quite slow and limited and i want to use airvpn as its rich in features but i am afraid that somehow university blocked (ports?) access to connecting to any server using airvpn. I am not that great with vpns and all the internet ports and protocols. I bought the 3 days license for airvpn to see how it works but i can't becasue of the server connection issues. I dont know how i can solve this problem, maybe i need o adjust some settings or something but im a newbie with that and would need your help to sort this problem out.

Do you know if they are using some proxy and port to connect through?, if they do you must use it in Eddie and normally with tcp 443.

I have no idea what proxy or port they are using. Could you tell me how to set the tcp 443 in eddie ?

I had the same problem with openvpn on my android.. after literally downloading all different profiles with different udp/tcp settings with all different ports i finally got one to work. I suggest doing that, it might take a while but it should work hopefully.. It was weird that Open VPN could not connect with port 443, but did with port 80.   *shrugs*

If you connected before with another vpn then it's not about proxy, sorry I didn't read it. In Eddie, choose Preferences - Protocols and try with these options everytime: tcp 443, tcp 80, udp 53, ssl 443 and ssh 80.

 I got OpenVPN working, played around with different configs and got TCP-53 working. Thanks for help m8.

 

Im happy that this works but eddie still doesn't work (stable and experimental). I tried setting the protocol to TCP-53 as in openvpn but it doesn't work at all, there is a couple of things happening when trying to connect:

 

first off there is a bubble box popping out from the icon in the tray saying "object reference not set to an instance object"  

 

second in eddie it says "checking authorization" and doesn't go pass this step (also when you try to navigate around the menu eddie crashes, there is no way of showing you the logs as they are not being saved after the crash in the log section)

Also in the Preferences, disable "Check if the tunnel works" in Advanced section, and in the DNS section disable: "Check AirVPN DNS". Try to see if you connect now or not and make different tests. If not then contact AirVPN support in the Client Area.

I tried every protocol configuration there is but no luck. I get the same thing as before "checking authorization" and it can't connect to any server.

While trying out protocol UDP-2018 and TCP-80 i got an error message http://imgur.com/a/2q29b and after clicking ok eddie stops working and crashes.

 

looks like i would need to have a word with the airvpn support about this.

 

 

PS: another important issue to me is that i can't get any stable connection on vpn while on the wifi connection, even OpenVPN doesn't work while on wifi. I mananged to connect only on UDP-443 but it connects with error saying that tap windows is blocked by the firewall in the logs. I am 99% sure that is impossible as its not blocked and its working fine on ethernet connection.

 

I have no idea what the issue could be (maybe the tap adapter doesn't work with the wifi adapter ?)

PS2: I'm starting to get tap-windows firewall error while on ethernet connection, the only solution to this problem that i found was restarting my pc. I know that there is probably a much better solution but i dont know where to start (tap-windows can't be blocked by firewall as i configured it in the firewall setting in control panel and worked ok, maybe i done something wrong and its still getting blocked) I would be really thankful if someone could take me step by step on how to sucessfully make tap-windows not being blocked by the firewall.

Maybe a stupid question, but are you executing openvpn and so the tap adapter with admin privileges?, when you used another VPN service, how it was and what you did?. Are you using another firewall in your computer, or antivirus?. Give us all the information that you can, maybe it´s something in your computer or the university has changed to something more extreme.

Alright i'm getting really close now to fixing the problem, i got OpenVPN working on the wifi along with the ethernet connection. The firewall problem still comes up but now i know how to fix it, everytime the firewall error pops up i have to go into the adapter settings and reset the tap-windows adapter (enable/disable) this fixes the problem with the connection.

 

Is there any other permament solution to fix this ? i don't want to enable/disable the tap-windows adapter everytime i want to connect.

Yes im running everything with admin privileges, the other vpn was simple to use it was trustzone vpn, basic install and run, didn't have to fiddle with any settings. i don't have any onther firewall other than windows and i don't use any antivirus
