stuntfest 0 Posted ... After setting up a forwarded port and added that to transmission bittorrent client I went to CheckmytorrentIP.com which knew that I was using transmission and knew I was in the US.. even though I am using a server from UK. The CheckmytorrentIP.com showed I was using the correct IP address for the UK, but saw I my location was in the US Is this chill? why would It show my location in the US? socks5time 0 Posted ... I use this site to see what IP I'm transmitting from. http://checkmytorrentip.com/ You shouldn't see your own in their tracker. Quote Share this post Link to post
michigan82 4 Posted ... by the way... you should consider NOT to take a vpn server based in the UK for your purposes. There are plenty countries with a sensitive legislation towards filesharing. Even though your vpn provider does not explicitly disallow you that you shouldn't do that. No need for provocation. Concerning your actual issue: in fact there are lots of security aspects to consider in order to strenghten your privacy and anonymity. No matter what client you use... it sends its ID to those it connects to. So other users you connect to can see your client and you can see theirs. But does this really matter? No, why should it. With respect to your ip-leakage you should primarily check if you get a new IP at all when you connect to a server. Maybe your problem is not limited to your bittorrent client...
