viewer-x 1 Posted ... Hi, I'm using the latest Beta on Win10 and for while now I'm experiencing connection losses with Eddie. I'm not even downloadng anything or have any P2P software installed. just while surfing the web I get disconnected out of the blue. And it happens a lot.Similar to here: https://airvpn.org/topic/20433-max-speeds-then-complete-drop-off-severed-connection/ Now I wanted to try the solution by using OpenVPN 2.4 RC1 or RC2. I know I can just use OpenVPN GUI with the configs from here but is there way to manually update the OpenVPN version used in Eddie?I tried to simply overwrite the old exe with the new one but that didn't work so I guess threre's a special version needed for Eddie, especially since the version in Eddie is over 3MB while the one from the OpenVPN directory is less than 1MB. Is it possible to update the OpenVPN version used in Eddie? Thanks Quote Share this post Link to post
zhang888 1066 Posted ... You can replace the openvpn.exe binary file in it's directory in the portable version, however 99.9% it will not solve your issue.Connection loss has nothing to do with the OpenVPN software itself, you should check your ISP and home network. viewer-x 1 Posted ... I doubt it has something to do with my ISP or network setup. When I use the OpenVPN 2.4 RC GUI version with the ,conf from here I have no connection losses. Same, when I don't use any VPN app.But when I use Eddie I get connection losses. So it rather looks like the problem is either with the OpenVPN version Eddie uses or with Eddie itself. Here are my settings: Routes are empty, Proxy/Tor is set to none and Protocols and DNS are set to Automatic. And the TAP driver setting Media Status is set to Application Controlled since Always Connected won't let me change servers without restarting my PC. Khariz 109 Posted ... I may be a different verbosity setting somehow, or my brain has always just ignored that. I'll check again. Oh yeah, those are clearly the pushed settings. I was just being dumb when I read this. I actually want to try something. I wonder what happens if you replace the openvpn.exe in the Eddie subfolder with the 2.4rc1 executable and try to run Eddie (sort of tricking it into using 2.4). I wonder if that would break it completely, or make it work better, or if will just error out. I'm going to try that and find out. I'm special like that. Quote Share this post Link to post

Khariz 109 Posted ... Eddie literally never disconnects for me on Windows 10. I can't replicate the issue. So I really can't explain what's going on for you. I don't disconnect using either OpenVPN or Eddie. Quote Share this post Link to post

elwango74 0 Posted ... 1. I can confirm giganerd's observation that openvpn 2.4rc1~2 (in debian stretch/testing) fails in the same manner as he/she reported. 2. I'd also like to report that if SSL is selected in Eddie (using latest experimental v2.11.9), it doesn't work with the latest stunnel4 (5.38-1) in debian stretch/testing. From my Eddie Log: "options = NO_SSLv2" Illegal SSL option Quote Share this post Link to post
the-end 0 Posted ... Hey guys, I'm not at all technically skilled when it comes to VPN's, but I can confirm the same problem as giganerd and elwango74. I was actually connected through the AirVPN client when I popped in the update(like a hour ago, max), and noticed that openVPN was one of the packages being updated. Ever since connections keep getting refused.I could dump the terminal log if it's of any use? They're alot like giganerds though, same 'Connection refused'-stuff. Running kali-rolling 2016.2, and coincidentally finished a clean re-install this morning. So there isn't much else that could be wrong. ;p openvpn/kali-rolling,now 2.4~rc1-2 amd64 [installed, automatic] ^ current package in the kali-rolling repository.. not sure if that makes it the one for all debian-derivatives, though. Hope it helps! Quote Share this post Link to post
OpenSourcerer 1441 Posted ... ^ current package in the kali-rolling repository.. not sure if that makes it the one for all debian-derivatives, though. Debian-testing and openvpn-stable are both on 2.3.x. It's 2.4.x on Debian-sid and openvpn-testing. I'd say, right now supporting 2.4.x is not mandatory for the client, just use 2.3.x until OpenVPN decides to move 2.4.x to stable.
