Ubuntu 16.04LTS : says it connects OK, but...

Recommended Posts

Bonjour !

I'm currently running Ubuntu 16.04LTS.

I tried tu install the airvpn_linux_x64_debian.deb package, but installation failed with a missing dependency I couldn't find, as it's reported as obsolete (libmono-system-runtime2.0-cil).

So I switched to the network manager method, created a AirVPN_Europe_UDP-443.ovpn config file and ceratd a VPN connection with it.

When I activate the VPN, the icon in the notification bar shows a small lock and a notification shows : "Message d'identification VPN : La connexion VPN a été établie avec succès" (VPN Identification message : The VPN connection has been successfully established).

Once the is done, no more network activity, no more DNS resolutions, no traffic at all...

If I disconnect the VPN, I get a message showing that the VPN connection has been deactivated, and everything goes back to normal.

Did I do something wrong, doctors ?

Are you using Eddie 2.10 or the experimental build?

I have seen this behavior too, also on Ubuntu 16.04. It seems that Network Manager doesn't allow the configuration of the necessary static routes (0.0.0.0/1 and 128.0.0.0/1) to override your default gateway, so you end up with 2 default routes (0.0.0.0/0).

I worked around it by invoking openvpn on the command-line as root (to test), and when comfortable I configured it to run as a service so the VPN starts automatically.

Bonjour !

@error / @lostboy : I don't use Eddie. 1) Should I ? 2) I didn't find it (but I didn't look very hard...)

@dagadog : I'll try that and will post the result.

Thanks to you all !

Being a bit of as noob, can you tell me how you got around this and also how to set it up as a service.

Thanks in advance
