How to Setup OpenVpn with Kubuntu 16.04

Recommended Posts

Hi dear AirVpn Community,

i am trying to setup a openvpn connection on kubuntu 16.04.

But i always get the error

Failed to activate Airvpn_UDP-443  could nit find source connection.

I followed this guide https://airvpn.org/topic/11432-using-airvpn-with-ubuntu-network-manager/.

Can anyone help me out.

Eddie is working fine for me but i want to try out the other possibility too.

Thanks in advance.

Please post the errors you get with Network Manager.

Also, why isn't Eddie a good option for you, if you are using AirVPN as the main provider?

The Eddie client features far exceeding the Network Manager ones by years of development.

As for the Gnome Network Manager itself, it has quite a few a few issues with OpenVPN by itself.

AirVPN addressed most of them just by developing an own client, without carrying out the legacy

issues the developers of Network Manager had to do, in order to support OpenVPN properly.

Eddie is a good option.

I choose this provider because it has a client for Linux.

The only thing missing is the option to minimise it to the Taskbar like in Windows.

I just wanted to try the other option out.

The only error message I get is

"Failed to activate AirVpn_UDP-443 could not find source connection".

If the problem isn't easy to solve then I'll just let it be.

Thanks

Eddie can minimize to the taskbar if you make your Window manager (Gnome) aware of it.

But this is beyond the scope of this topic. Both Gnome and Ununtu forums describe how to achieve this.

Regarding your error, this is not a standard Network Manger error.

Please review the howto once again, the server hostname (FQDN) in NM must match the server name exactly.
