HEADS UP! QNAP Firmware 4.2.1 does not direcet traffic over the VPN connection

Just a heads up for anyone using a QNAP NAS

 

The latest version of the firmware, 4.2.1 fails to redirect the gateway to the VPN tunnel even though the connection succeeds. 

 

In othe words, you will be connected to your VPN service, and the NAS will be completely ignorring the tunnel and still send all traffic over your normal gateway.

 

They are aware of it and will fix it, but for now you should either avoid OpenVPN in 4.2.1 or roll back to 4.2.0 which still works fine.
