Really slow speeds - long-time user - is the VPN server access being deliberately slowed?

Recommended Posts

I'm a long-time AirVPN user.  And I love the service.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.11 and PCs with Windows 7 and 10.

I have Comcast for internet service that usually is 20 mbps download and 10 to 20 mbps upload.

Only in the past few days I noticed that anytime I use AirVPN via Eddie, my internet connection slows to a crawl - something like 1 mbps upload and download on both operating systems.

When I use an alternative VPN provider such as PIA, the connection is once again as fast as Comcast without the VPN.  It use to be that AirVPN was much faster than PIA.

Is Comcast targeting AirVPN's servers and slowing down traffic to them even if the traffic is encrypted and it can't tell what data is being transmitted or received in the VPN tunnel?

Various companies like NetFlix have lists of VPN provider server addresses. They can monitor user's use of VPNs based on the connection to the VPN server. They can discriminate / block access to services depending on the VPN server's location or use of VPN.

So I wonder if something like this is happening to AirVPN's servers.  With fewer servers, AirVPN would be vulnerable to this.

Hopefully it is only a software glitch in Eddie and the operating systems involved.

Just wondering.

Left it on all night for over 10 hours and it still hadn't downloaded.  In fact it slowed to a stop at one point. Hit resume this morning and it was working again I was getting an average of 279.6KB/s which is ok for mt 3G connection.
