Number of users

Hi there,

 

i just have a quick question regarding the number of users on a given server.

 

Does it increase my anonymity if i connect to a server with a lot of users on it, or doesn't this matter ?

 

I mean, is it more anonymous if  i for example connect to "Mekbuda" with 15 users on it, or to "Naos" with 160 users currently connected ?

 

Is there a difference ?

The more users connected to the server the better your anonymity is, obviously.

However it largly depends on the honesty of your provider and their promise of

keeping no logs.

 

As a general idea, think about each VPN server as a shared public service. The

more people that use it at the same time, the better extra mixing you get along.

In the intelligence community this is sometimes called "cover traffic".

Tor, for example, provides great anonymity (a few thousand relays that serve

millions of users simultaneously, but at a price of major performance hit).

This is one of the reasons why it is better to use a public VPN, other than just

throwing OpenVPN on a self hosted box.
