Captchas and email logins

Hello,

 

New user here. I'm finding the service good so far.

 

I'm using Firefox with cookies set to be cleared on closing the browser. I close the browser after every search and very rarely have more than one browser open at once.

 

I use Startpage as my search engine. Every time I search I have to go through the captcha routine. Because I close my browser after each search, it is becoming a nuisance.

 

I've also had to go through the "additional security" measures in order to log in to both my gmail and hotmail accounts. I don't want to have to go through this process whenever I check my mail.

 

Is there any way round these irritations?

AS long as you aren't talking about cloudflare captchas, try installing the browser extension HTTPS Everywhere.  Most sites don't require captchas on unique HTTPS sessions.

I also consistently experienced the Startpage problem on some Netherlands servers. In the end, I went through all of the Netherlands servers, one by one, and blacklisted those that didn't play nice with Startpage. Oh, and I was using HTTPS-Everywhere when I was experiencing the problems so it doesn't have anything to do with that.

Try using https://search.disconnect.me as your search page. The only irritation for me is that it defaults to United States but that is more easily changed than filling in captchas which I passionately hate. It doesn't have all the extras StartPage has but I can live with that.

 

I doubt you need to close your browser after every search; if your computer is that vulnerable then the only safe option is to keep off the internet altogether at home.

 

What additional security measures do you need to sign in to email accounts? As long as you are using HTTPS then you are connecting securely. Your email accounts themselves may not be though. I use Posteo for some things (such as AirVPN!) which is as secure and anonymous as can be pretty much.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but what does Posteo (which you pay a small amount for) have that's better than, say, Riseup which is free?

Additional security measures should only occur once.

 

As for captchas on Startpage, I use Startpage also and have never encountered captchas, maybe try other servers?
