New User - Slow DL Speeds

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

New user here currently on a 3 day plan to see what like speeds I'll get through the VPN.

I've made a few changes to the client that I've come across on the forums already, This includes changing to UDP port 2018 and adding the following to my OPVN directives..

sndbuf 524288
rcvbuf 524288

When not using the VPN (Air VPN Client that is) I get the below;

Speedtest.net

Server: Maidstone UK

Ping: 27ms

Download Speed: 70.13Mbps

Upload Speed: 18.12Mbps

If I do the same when connected to Nunki via the VPN I get the below, using same server on Speedtest.net

Ping: 31ms

Download Speed: 14.50Mbps

Upload Speed: 10.44Mbps

I have tried other similiar speed test, including 1Gb file downloads but they too don't seem to get any higher than 20Mbps download

This is installed on a fresh Windows 10 x64 machine with firewall disabled. Driver version on the TAP adapter is 9.0.0.21

Am I wrong to expect a bit more out of the VPN?

Appreciate any assistance or suggestions!

I've just tested Nunki from Spain using my 30/3 at UDP 2018. My sndbuf is set to 512KB and I got

Which ISP have you subscribed to?

My initial findings were from a VM that had the client installed. When not using the client, download speeds were acceptable.

I'm doing more testing now and when installed on my machine, I've achieved the following:

This leads me to believe the issue lies somewhere in the VM itself when using the VPN as it's outbound connection

Hello,

This solution from the staff has worked for me and others who have had slow speeds.

Go into the AirVPN Eddie client preferences and reset the buffers. Set them to 256 kB (in "AirVPN" -> "Preferences" -> "Advanced" -> "General"). Click "Save" and start a new VPN connection.

Then test your speed and see if there is an improvement.

Hope this helps!

I tried this out but doesn't appear to be having any improvement.

This initially did just look to be within VMs but I can now replicate on my PC

It's driving my crazy trying to get to the bottom of it
