network lock questions

I have just started using AirVPN, and am not sure I completely understand how the network lock works. I think it is supposed to block the internet connection whenever AirVPN is disconnected.

 

What I am not sure of is whether the internet connection will also be blocked after the AirVPN app is closed. Additionally, I am not sure what option to choose in the AirVPN menu: setting it to 'Automatic' does not seems to do anything, while setting it to 'OS X - PF' does seem to do what I expect it to do. I am on an iMac OSX 10.11.2 using the AirVPN app 2.10.3.

No, if the AirVPN client is closed the network lock feature should be disabled. Regarding your second question, I would keep it at automatic. Try running some tests by disconnecting from a server but leave the client open. You should not be able to do anything on the internet except going to the AirVPN page. That's all you should be allowed to do. What does "OS X - PF" do that you want that the automatic setting doesn't?

Thanks for your help, has cleared things up somewhat. I have however done some experimenting and found that neither setting activates the network lock after disconnecting (lock in the upper right of UI stays open). After disconnecting there is the option to activate the network lock but it does not automatically do so. Manually activating the network lock does work, for both settings.

 

Only after enabling 'Activate Network Lock at startup' does the network lock acts in the way you described, and the way I expected it to act. I had assumed that the 'at startup' referred to system startup, i.e. OS X startup, but now realize that it refers to AirVPN startup, a somewhat stupid assumption in hindsight. So the issue has been solved, and again thanks for your help.

I'm new here. May I know how do u activate the network locks? They have given me a link but I still don understand. Can u tell me in a step by step way? Many thanx..

First let me say I am very new too. But for me the following worked:

 

after having started Eddie, the AirVPN app, I went into the preferences of Eddie

under "General" there is an option "Activate Network Lock at startup" which I selected

selecting "Activate Network Lock at startup"will bring up a window asking whether you really want to activate the network lock

 

Note that I am on OSX, so the procedure may be somewhat different on Windows. You can tell whether the network lock is active by whether the padlock in the upper right of the Eddie UI is closed. Hope this helps.
