All upload, no download (can't do both simultaneously)

Recommended Posts

On AirVPN, any server,

If I am uploading torrents (using Vuze, same configuration for long time), I can do so fine at very close to maximum speed of my internet connection (around 1000kB/s). As soon as I begin any download, upload speed drops to between 5-20kB/s and upload never goes faster than 60-70kB/s (from naked 9000kB/s to usual fast VPN connection of 3500kB/s).

I can upload fine, as long as I am only uploading. As soon as I start a download, the entire service takes a shit. The same thing was happening on PIA. I don't know if it has to do with a new update of the TUN/TAP or what, but:

1. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Vuze, AirVPN. the TUN/TAP driver, restarting as necessary,

2. I've rebuilt the IP stack and reset everything using netsh -- still nothing.

3. I've tried different ports and different protocols.

Please help me resolve this problem. I'm not an idiot when it comes to networking or ovpn and I've been doing it without issue for a few years, and this is beyond me. This issue started today with the update to the 'fixed' PIA client (which I uninstalled, and the tap that came with it, v 53), which fiasco made me switch to AirVPN (cryptostorm doesn't allow forwarded ports so it's shite for torrenting). The problem persists even with reinstallation of all possible offending programs.

NOTHING in the setup hardware or software wise has changed. I even restored to last week's backups to make sure on the software front.

For several others in the forum having similar problems:

EDIT: SOLVED BY DOWNGRADING TUN/TAP DRIVER TO 9.0.0.9.2_3/9.9.2_3 or earlier (http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/tap-windows-9.9.2_3.exe, legacy releases: http://swupdate.openvpn.org/community/releases/) from the buggy 9.0.0.21/9.21. 9.0.0.9_original isn't recognized by AirVPN client even with path_var set.

It's not digitally signed which worries me (9.0.0.9_original and 9.0.0.21 both are), and doesn't have a hash value, but it comes from the ovpn bin repos.
