How to choose a server

As i live in the country x, is it safer to choose a server that's not in country x?

Safer for what?

Safer for torrents (police ceasing servers), safer for posing on fora (police ceasing servers, safer for x ( police country x ceasing servers in country x)

Depends in what country. I would recommend you, to choose a server in:

Netherlands, Sweden, Russia, Panama or Asia. Germany would also be a good choice.

I'd say it depends completely on your local laws and hot law enforcement/intelligence agencies work in your country.

 

Some countries has their versions of "NSA" spy on your traffic if it only leaves the country. So if you're based in country X and connect to country Y the chance might be higher that they might try to listen in on your traffic, with or without success. In those cases you should try to use the same country you're located in.

 

In other cases it does not matter too much, go for either the fastest or if you want to circumvent geolocation.
