New user, having trouble with highly inconsistent speeds.

I just got AirVPN today, and I've been going through all of the fixes in the book to try and get it working properly. I've switched ports, sockets, package sizes, and all of that but nothing seems to work! Normally I have a 30mbit/s connection which should give me a good 2.5/3 mb/s, but I'm struggling to get over 750kb/s. I don't understand what I am doing wrong! the speeds jump from 500 or 660 and then back to 200 or 300 and then sometimes lower. I had it for a while where it was going 1 or 2 mb/s pretty consistently, but that was only for a few moments, and I can't seem to recreate that. Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? I'll be willing to post any number of analytics or tests to help you out. I really don't want to go through getting a refund
