If i try to establish a fourth connection, what happens?  Does the fourth connection simply fail to authenticate or does the first and oldest connection get dropped in favor or the fourth and newest connection?

The fourth will fail and you will get a message in your client area saying connection failed because you exceeded the limit of three

To be specific, you will receive an authentication failed error in OpenVPN.

 

If you are using the AirVPN Client "Eddie" then it will fail and tell you that you already have 3 concurrent connections.
