AirVPN client shows HUGE upload speed, drops all connections

Recommended Posts

This is something that happens every few minutes regardless of which server I attempt to connect to:

Everything will begin normally and seem to work as intended. Then suddenly the AirVPN client shows that my upload rate is 10-80 MB/s and all the connections I am working with get dropped. This outage lasts a few seconds or a few minutes. The whole time the upload rate reads impossibly high and I can't connect to anything or use the internet etc.

Using an advanced task manager utility like Process Hacker or Process Explorer confirms that the operating system believes there is this much network I/O happening, though it's completely unclear what process this behavior originates from.

If I watch all open ports when this problem happens, I notice two things. First, most connections get reset. Second, there is very little traffic on every port (no where near 10-80 MB/s up or down).  Indeed the transfer total for every port is at most a couple megabytes.

Why do Windows and the AirVPN client think there is so much uploading happening when it seems like the network connection isn't functioning at all? What could the cause of this dysfunction be to begin with?

Still happening and super annoying.  PC freezes once in awhile too when it occurs.

It only happens in Eddie and not the regular OpenVPN client.

Edit:  Issue also happens with regular non-AirVPN OpenVPN client.

Very strange and frustrating!

I only use the servers in California so I'm testing out a non-Cali server to see if that's the issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

Edit:  I stayed on California servers all day but with another port (80 UDP instead of my regular 443 UDP), but after a few hours, my PC shut down while I was AFK.  I'm pretty sure it was again due to the crazy high upload.

I'm not on the Singapore server with port 80 UDP and am hoping for the best.

If anyone has any ideas about what could be causing this issue and how to fix it, it would be very much appreciated.

My issue is identical to what the OP of this thread wrote.

I too have been experience the same issue, I've downloaded various Versions of the TAP adapter to see if that would correct the issue and also tried many other trouble shooting guides but to no success, The speed off the download is fine then gradually drops till i have no download speed at all. Even tho airVPN is showing crazy download speeds, My VPN Will then disconnect to the server and reconnect shortly after and the cycle starts again every 5-10 minutes, And no my internet is not being slowed by my isp, I am able to download with no issue without using my VPN

. 2016.01.25 14:41:11 - OpenVPN > [server] Inactivity timeout (--ping-restart), restarting

Relevant line. There are so many topics on that one, I cannot count them. Luckily, a search counted 120. Here's a selection of possible solutions, try one or more of these.

Restart Problem

AirVPN keeps re-connecting every few minutes

Connection last 1 minute, then no speed...

Disconnection for ping timeout

Random disconnects <-- more links from my side - a linkception

question about Inactivity timeout

It will take some time to go through all of them, but please let us know if something helped so we have a resource to link to in the future.

Someone somewhere at some point 'lol' posted a thread saying the high upload stuff happened when they were having connection problems.

Eg. Connection problem occurs, then it shows high or random speeds.

@aaronosaka

If you're pc is freezing or crashing you've got other issues.

Could be a firewall conflict, tap driver conflict, other drivers even or the OS is just hosed. Its windows so who knows, things break.

You're right that it could be something non-VPN related.

I decided to screw it and just upgraded my router to DD-WRT and am using that to connect to Air.

nice

The state windows is in running it via the router is probably a safer bet.

Well, when I need to be on the road I will have to stick with OpenVPN with Eddie running on my laptop, but who knows:  the problem could resolve itself on its own eventually or at least not freeze randomly.  It's a top of the line Alienware laptop from about 1.5 years ago so I'm surprised it has an issue like this, but it sounds software-related so there's that.

It is eddie itself i believe, it seems to torrent itself out when you leave the installer on your computer. if you can hunt down anywhere eddie is at and remove it then the problem should rectify itself. Eddie is supposed to uninstall and delete the loader or at least give the option but depending on how you downloaded it and loaded it, it may not do this. i think airvpn is well aware and its some kind of bs way to get free hosting for their client. not cool. i say this because i had a hunch this was the issue and removing the zip seems to have fixed the issue.

Without going much into details how torrents work, you are aware that a torrent file with tracker information should be created first in order for peers to download it, right?

The Eddie client is not officially distributed via torrents, so what you said here makes no sense.

This is one of the weirdest conspiracies of the month

Transmitting nearly 40Gbit of bandwidth per second. Trying to save a few megabytes per hour.
