What do people use VPNs for?

Hi guys,

 

I'm new here and to VPN use as a whole.

 

I recently was told about VPNs because I was using an internet service that restricted my use through parental controls.

 

I'm curious what are other uses for VPNs or is it literally only really used to get around restrictions such as NetFlix and other services that are restricted by country etc?

Hiding activity from ISP (maybe you like to torrent things you shouldn't), bypassing throttling by ISP (again torrents, but often other protocols too), bypassing geolocation, preventing DDoS in online games and anywhere else that could attract angry kids with booters, securing public/possibly insecure WiFi - the uses of a VPN are endless.
