Port Forwarding Broken

I've been trialing AirVPN and the port forwarding has never worked. I can connect fine to the VPN, but when I check the ports they remain closed. The multiple static port forwarding that AirVPN provides, is really the main advantage I think this service has over others and it would be a shame if it didn't work. This problem occurs on both my Android phone and my Linux laptop. Any help on this issue would be appreciated? I'm running Arch Linux and connect using network-manager-openvpn.
