ANSWERED I can only do one thing at the time after reinstall Windows 7

Connecting to websites takes ages. I open up any website, it loads and loads, and once it has connected, it loads it up very quickly. But making the connection itself takes a long time. Opening up multiple websites is even worse. 

It's not a DNS failure as far as I know, since switching to the google DNS 8.8.4.4 didn't make a difference. 

I also tried the 2.8 and 2.10 client, both the same result.

The speeds on speedtest.net are fine, and gaming is fine too.

Oddly enough, I tried playing a round of League of Legends. The moment I opened a website in my browser, the game completely froze. I closed the browser -> game worked again. So it seems that whenever I try to load something up, all other applications freeze. This all happened after reinstalling Windows. Could this be a driver problem on my side? Everything works just fine when not using the AirVPN client, so..

BTW: I'm running a SOCKS5 connection from time to time over PuTTy aswell, and that one works flawlessly even with AirVPN being connected in the background (Does the SOCKS5 choose my TP Link adapter or TAP 9?)

 

EDIT: Connecting with SOCKS5 to my Raspberry Pi which is currently also connected to a AirVPN VPN server but does NOT use the AirVPN client (it uses openvpn) works fine too.

I tried everything that could one could possibly try. Different ports / wifi -> lan / different server / UDP -> TCP / different DNS / AirVPN client -> openvpn client. Always the same result.

What did work though, was going into a virtual machine (using NAT) with ubuntu. It worked flawlessly there, despite the virtual machine running on the main system on which things don't work. And it works flawlessly when i SOCKS5 to my RPi, too. 

So the only possible reason for this not to work must be something along my Windows configurations? That's what I hate the most about it though, since I did clean install on it ...

I fixed it. Finally....

 

Wow this is the strangest thing.. This really needs some looking into.

 

I downloaded Windows 7 Professional and installed on a virtual machine in desperate hope that this would make a difference. Nope!  AirVPN again, not working. I knew that the OpenVPN client also didn't work the last time but I thought I should install it.. And to my surprise, it did work.

 

When I wanted to download the OpenVPN to my main system, and came to their page, i realized that I hit the wrong button when I downloaded it on my virtual machine: I downloaded and installed the XP version!!!

Yes that's right, the XP OpenVPN version works and the Vista and later version does not (both 64 bit). Also the most important thing that I noticed while once installing the Vista and later version and the XP version is that while installing the XP version, it also reinstalled the TAP driver.. I'm convinced that this is what broke.. everything.

 

In summary:

OpenVPN/AirVPN vista/7 version -> broken TAP driver (for me atleast)

OpenVPN XP version -> TAP driver works just fine.

 

Again I'd like to stress that the vista/7 version TAP driver didn't work on several WIFI-driver versions that I've tested out and also not on a LAN connection. It also didn't work on Win 7 Ultimate and Win 7 Professional (in a vm). Now, I have said that my RPi worked just fine. It was also using OpenVPN, but clearly a different driver (obviously). My Ubuntu virtual machine also worked (most likely also a different driver).
