Iphone wont log in with cookies blocked

I've been trying for ages to get my iphone to log onto the website for ages so I can install the VPN software but it never logged it. I've just tryed it with the cookies unblocked and it worked first time. Any ideas as to why it wouldn't work with the cookies blocked?

Cookies were designed to be a reliable mechanism for websites to remember stateful information (such as items in a shopping cart) or to record the user's browsing activity (including clicking particular buttons, logging in, or recording which pages were visited by the user as far back as months or years ago).

Cookies are needed when logging into most sites.

Browser depending you can usually leave them disabled, then make exceptions for the sites you choose to allow.
