OpenSourcerer 1435 Posted ... More and more AirVPN users demand servers in the southern hemisphere. Only problem is the legislation of possible countries.Iceland is a "nice to have" in my opinion, not really a necessity. At least, I wouldn't use these because they're too far away and it's highly unlikely some datacenter would have a direct BGP route to my ISP to keep the latency low. serenacat 83 Posted ... Found this forum topic after interesting read ofhttp://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/10/iceland-nation-ruled-pirates-161028150817808.html"Pirate Party vowing to root out government corruption and bring radical change is projected to win upcoming election."and remembered article about economics of datacenters in Iceland climate and cheap geothermal energy, so googled "iceland data center" and quite a lot of info.So reasons for AirVPN to put servers there could include:- practical support of Icelandic politics and economy, and business costs should be competitive;- political support of Iceland government ideals and programs which would appeal to some Air subscribers;- secure location outside US-EU surveillance spheres;- quite good latency into N America and Europe;- interesting tourist destination as business expense for staff visits to site. 1 Casper31 reacted to this Quote Share this post Link to post
ɹoɹɹǝ 26 Posted ... I agree. Iceland would be a very good location. I've heard connectivity to North America and Western Europe is very good, lowest latency has been sighted at/around 40-60ms. And Iceland has very ideal internet privacy laws as the constitution prohibits any form of censorship. Though our Switzerland servers are similar, I would like to see another "power" location. 1 Casper31 reacted to this Quote Hide ɹoɹɹǝ's signature Hide all signatures "I don't see myself as a hero because what I'm doing is self-interested: I don't want to live in a world where there's no privacy and therefore no room for intellectual exploration and creativity." - Edward Snowden"The Internet is by the people, for the people." - Kim Dotcom Share this post Link to post
